Apollo at the Park
The Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum approached Spaeth Hill to design a logo for their “Apollo At The Park” campaign. The campaign commemorates the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Apollo 11 to the Moon. Throughout the campaign, the logo would appear in 15 national ballparks around the country, engaging the community while also grabbing the attention of audiences that aren’t necessarily regular museum-goers.
We were inspired by vintage aerospace campaigns, primarily the aerospace posters of the 60s and 70s and the work of Otl Aicher. It was important that our logo felt timeless, not only for the longevity of the campaign but, to mirror the timelessness of the Apollo 11 achievement. The logo features a “stargazer” looking towards the future with awe. The simplified helmet icon incorporates a visor that references a baseball field. We developed a vector-based graphic system to provide an authentic, retro feel.
