Apollo II Fiftieth Anniversary

In addition to the “Apollo At The Park” branding, the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum also tasked Spaeth Hill with developing a brand for the event programming on the National Mall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon. The event programming included a large video installation of the Apollo launch and landing, projected onto the Washington Monument, as well as educational booths, talks and presentations and live music.


During design development we looked at imagery from the Apollo 11 mission and explored how we could turn this historic moment into a logo that celebrates humanity’s achievement, America’s achievement and forward momentum. Elements of the mark reference a torch lighting a path towards the future of space exploration, while the eagle’s wing represents the flight of the Apollo 11 Command Module as well as the spirit of America’s national icon.
